Coconut Oil – The Elixir of Life

Coconuts are known for their versatility ranging from traditional uses in some societies to modern uses, based on scientific analysis. They are the fruit of the coconut palm, and are grown widely in many tropical and subtropical countries like India. Coconuts are known for their large amount of water, and when immature, they are harvested for this water is very refreshing to drink and filled with minerals. Mature coconuts still contain a small amount of water, but at that time, endosperm form a thick white core that is processed to produce oil. Coconut palms produce their first fruit from six to ten years, reaching peak production in 15-20 years. Ideally, a single tree can produce 75 fruits per year.

Coconuts are processed to produce so much oil and are called coconut milk. Coconut oil, table oil is extracted from the mature coconut core. It has a high fat content, so it is more resistant to oxidation or roasting which allows it to last up to six months at 24 degrees C without spoiling. Its high fat content also makes its regular consumption a controversial topic, with most doctors advising against it.

However, lately, some hidden in the benefits of coconut oil came to light, which justifies its regular use without demeaning in some societies such as India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, etc.

These advantages come from virgin cold pressed coconut oil.

· Many skin experts recommend the application of coconut oil for dry skin. As an excellent massage oil, it is a safe solution for dry and flaky skin, which are sometimes symptoms of skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis. This is a balm for most forms of dermatitis.

· It is excellent for hair growth and curing dandruff. Provides essential proteins to nourish and heal damaged hair.

· Contains lauric acid, which is beneficial to the heart by reducing blood cholesterol levels and preventing hypertension

· It is easy to digest. Therefore, it increases the metabolic rate and contributes to weight loss. It is also beneficial for the thyroid and endocrine systems.

· There is some research suggesting that oil is beneficial for patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

· It is believed that coconut oil is beneficial for cancer patients and people with HIV.
