Cholesterol drugs – “statins” – the way they work and the effects they produce

Cholesterol lowering drugs – commonly called statins – are often prescribed, but the side effects in the body can make you feel pain, tired and depressed. What should you do? If you feel stuck between a rock and a hard place, to answer the following two questions should help you decide: “How do they work and?” Are they effective?

Statins work by inhibiting an enzyme known as HMG-CoA reductase. This enzyme functions in the liver and is essential for the production of cholesterol and other co-enzyme called CoQ10. When the HMG-CoA reductase is inhibited, the liver is inhibited, and can not perform their duties properly – cholesterol and CoQ10 levels in the body are both exhausted.

To understand what happens when cholesterol levels are reduced, we must understand RPGs cholesterol in our body. Cholesterol is a substance found in all cell membranes, cell walls waterproof. Without adequate cholesterol, our cell walls become leaky. Studies have shown that low cholesterol increased performance cancer rates. This should not be surprising, since cancer begins at the cellular level. Cholesterol is also a repair substance. It is in any scar tissue, including scar tissue found in arteries – plate. (This should help realize that cholesterol is a symptom of heart disease, not a cause). Cholesterol is also necessary for our brain to brain function. What do I get? Cholesterol is a friend, not an enemy. Creating low levels of cholesterol, inhibiting its function is normal can be very dangerous for your health need.

Statins also interfere with the achievement of the CoQ10 enzyme. CoQ10, such as cholesterol, can be found in our cells, and is vital to the creation of ATP in mitochondria. The creation of ATP (energy) is essential for cell reproduction, cell repair, for messaging and the effective interaction between our cells -ie- our immune system, and to support muscle function. When CoQ10 levels are depleted, the muscles can not function properly. Since the heart is a muscle, it is directly affected when CoQ10 is limited. Although statins to reduce cholesterol levels and improve heart function and, indirectly, that may decrease heart function by altering levels of CoQ10 are taken. Interestingly, heart failure deaths doubled from 1989 to 1997. Statins have been introduced to the American public in 1987.

Statins do not work? It depends on what you want them to do. Yes, lower cholesterol.

Are prevent heart disease? It is obvious that heart disease is not in decline. This is confirmed by a test performed in 1992, in which Dr. Ravnskov cholesterol analyzed 26 controlled trials and found the same number of cardiovascular deaths in both treatment and control groups.1

Statins are effective? Lower cholesterol and very effective CoQ10, but do not seem to be lowering rates of heart disease. You must have good cause to produce the desired effect. The evidence suggests that factors other than high cholesterol causes heart disease. If high cholesterol causes heart disease and statins could put a big dent in the number of victims of heart disease -but are not. Instead, they are causing themselves problems. I will save this information for future articles …

If you decide to take statins, it should be complemented with coenzyme Q10, or you’ll run the risk of serious side effects such as muscle loss. If you decide not to take statins, there are some very effective natural remedies that can help your cholesterol / triglycerides in a normal range, to reach the source of the problem. They would be a much wiser investment, in my opinion.
