Children can develop types of arthritis

Arthritis is not a health problem for adults. In fact, about 300,000 children in the US suffering from rheumatoid arthritis or juvenile pediatric disease, which are the terms used to describe arthritis in children.
What is juvenile arthritis (JA)?
Juvenile arthritis is not a disease in itself, but is a term used to describe a variety of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, or for pediatric rheumatic conditions that can affect children under 16 years. There are many different types of JA and each comes with its own symptoms, causes and treatment options. Then we will explore the main types of conditions JA:
Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA)
This is the most common type of JA. This condition causes the immune system to attack the body tissues mistakenly system, leading to inflammation of the joints and other body parts.
Causes: idiopathic means “of unknown origin”. There is no known cause for most types of AIJ. The only clue so far is research that shows genetic predisposition in some children develop this condition.

Subtypes: There are 6 subtypes of JIA: sJIA, oligoarticular JIA, polyarticular JIA, psoriatic juvenile Arthirits, enthesitis-related JIA, and undifferentiated arthritis.
Juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM)
This condition causes muscle weakness and rash and is an inflammatory disease. JDM mainly affects children between 5-10 years.
Causes: The cause of JDM is still unknown, but there are reasons to believe that has to do with abnormalities in the immune system, leading to inflammation and damage muscle cells and blood vessels.
Common symptoms: red or purple rash on the eyelids or cheeks Clouds and rash around the nails, elbows, knees, or chest muscle weakness, usually in the neck, back or stomach
Treatment: The goal of treatment is to reduce inflammation and improve the function. Some medications may be prescribed include anti-inflammatory and intravenous immunoglobulin. Another type of treatment may be necessary: physical therapy, speech therapy and products for skin protection.
